About Cranial Osteopathy
Cranial Osteopathy is a refined and subtle type of osteopathic treatment that uses very gentle manipulative pressure to encourage the release of stresses throughout the body, including the head.
Cranial Osteopathy is very effective when used in adulthood and in the treatment of babies and children. Birth is one of the most stressful events of our life and the effects of a difficult labour can cause a variety of problems in some babies. It is very beneficial for an expectant mum to have her lower back and pelvis assessed and treated before labour as this can help optimise a better delivery. It is also important to check the pelvis after labour as many strains can be put through this during the delivery and lead to chronic persistent low back pain |
About Structural OsteopathyAn Osteopath aims to restore mobility to the body in order to reduce or alleviate pain. Osteopathy is a manipulative therapy that specialises in joint, muscle and ligamentous problems, experienced in both the spine and peripheral joints.
The treatment consists of gentle rhythmical stretches of the joints of all parts of the body, soft tissue massage type treatment, and manipulation of joints. The aim is to restore normal muscle tone and joint relationship therefore improving mechanical function of the body and reducing/alleviating pain and inflammation. |
Osteopathy for newborns and babies
The process of birth can be a stimulating one, and generally babies cope well with the forces involved in a normal labour. However birth can be more complex and difficult, taking a long time, requiring for example medical interventions or caesarian section.
Light touch to the head & body to rebalance, allowing the baby to function properly. The Osteopath will start by taking a full health history for your baby, including details of pregnancy, birth and life so far. This is followed by examination and treatment – light touch to the head and body to rebalance the baby allowing it to function properly. Treatment is very much led by what position your baby is comfortable with. |
Osteopathy for children and adolescents
Osteopathic manual treatment aims to restore the correct mechanics and allow the different body systems – the nervous, immune, musculoskeletal and circulatory systems to work at their optimum.
For small children gentle techniques are applied to the head and body to rebalance and normalise. In older children and teenagers additional approaches of soft tissue release, massaging, stretching etc. may also be used to normalise body structures. |

We will continue to follow the guidelines set out by the government and NHS England and respond to any changes to ensure we comply with all the necessary social distancing and personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols
